Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q:
When do
Jaycees meet?
A:
Second
Tuesday of every month @7:30PM, at Mr. Beef
and Pizza In Mount Prospect, IL. There is
seating for 50 people in the room. Casual
attire. The meeting lasts between an hour
and two hours.
Q:
What does "Jaycee" mean?
A:
It stands for
"Junior Chamber of Commerce," but the name
Jaycee has stood alone to symbolize young
leaders in action.
Q:
How much does it cost?
A:
Dues are $60/yr. A
percentage of your dues goes toward your state
and national membership, which entitles you to
several benefits, including a quarterly
magazine, and several other membership rewards.
Q:
With work,
family and other commitments, my time is at
a premium. How much time is required to be a
member?
A:
Some people show their
support by coming out to only one or two
projects per year. Others are gung-ho, and
you'll see them at every project (especially
Board Members). That's fine. It's your call.
We do not take attendance, nor do we have
participation requirements. However, like
anything, you get out what you put in. This
organization is for you!
Q:
I'm too old to
join...Isn't the cutoff age at 41?
A:
We have many active
Associate Members who are 41-plus. We are
never "too old" to learn life/leadership
skills, and do great work for the community!
According to the organization's bylaws, the
Associate Member can not vote, but can
volunteer for committees, and even co-chair
projects with an active member.
Q:
How long have you been
in Mount Prospect, and what are you known
for?
A:
Glad you asked. We're
celebrating our 51st anniversary in 2007!
We're well-known by local citizens, other
community service groups (such as Lions,
Kiwanas, and Rotary) as a well-organized
leadership training organization. We learn
our leadership skills through running
projects for the community, for individual
membership development, management training,
and fun socials!
Q:
I hear Jaycees can get
rather rowdy at times. What is your
organization's structure?
A:
It's true, we can be a
noisy bunch! We work hard, and we play hard!
The Jaycees realize that most everyone has
to work. Why make meetings and projects
painful or boring? We like to make it fun at
our meetings, and at our projects. Expect to
find smiling faces, plenty of food, music,
and a beverage of your choice at our
get-togethers.
We run all of our projects according to the
Chapter's bylaws and traditions, with a
written Chairman's Planning Guide (loosely
referred to as a "CPG"), which is voted upon
by both our Board, and the General
Membership, prior to running any project.
Robert's Rules of Order is employed at our
meetings to keep our business "on track" and
productive.
